blog entry 04

Both in the matrix and Oedipus the king symbolized that whenever we come to know the truth it’s painful than the fake world we were used to believed. In the matrix and Oedipus the king, when Neo started to recognized the world of truth it turned to be a dystopia for him as well as Oedipus. The time when the truth wasn’t revealed to Oedipus he was determined to punish the criminal for the act he did, started to curse him(lines 310-320) and disbelieved TEIRESIAS prophecy (lines 440-450). When all the evidences were pointing out to him still he didn’t believed it until the servant came and said him the truth. The truth that he is the one who killed his father Laius ,the parents whom he believed so far weren’t his own (lines 1400-1410),shared his mother as his wife, the kids whom he was loving as his children are his siblings. The whole life he led at last became a question for him.
The same thing took placed in matrix when Neo started to know that human are nothing just a rechargeable machines for the computer programming system. Neo at that time couldn’t believe on his eyes and the facts he knew. Truth is like that, you never know how painful it’s going to be in your later life. In Oedipus the king, JOCASTA (his wife/mother) tried a lot to stop him (Oedipus) from knowing the truth. She said that Laius was destined to be killed and the people who were involved are the foreigners (lines 850-870).She further said that whatever Apollo and oracle says aren’t meant to be truthful all the time.(lines-same)
In both the cases Neo and Oedipus are shown to realize the truth by others. Morpheus showed Neo the world of reality and to fight against it to survive, rather in Oedipus when he know the truth everything is snatched away from him (lines 1800).
Truth is a complex word, and to seek in our lives needs courage. But I think that Neo life is slightly different from Oedipus because when Neo came to know the truth it was helpful for him, rather when Oedipus knew the truth he lost all his dignity he gained throughout his life.
